Bea's Restoration 2001 Page 2

Here's a few more words and pictures about the restoration of Bea the Beetle. More to follow as the restoration progresses.

15th September 2001

Front suspension rebuilt, gearbox and rear suspension in.

New brake master cylinder and new brake lines and flexi hoses. New track rod ends, shocks and steering damper.

Gearbox and rear suspension rebuilt, new brake lines, flexi hoses, and shocks. Still need to replace wheel bearings, brake shoes, and paint the brake drums.

30th September 2001

New brake shoes, return springs, wheel cylinder. Rear wheel bearings caused a major hold up as it was a nightmare as usual to get the old bearings out. Got there in the end after learning a few new curses !

Rear drums painted and installed.

6th October 2001

Front drums painted and brakes rebuilt. Just need to change the gearbox oil and fit the front anti roll bar and the wheels can go back on !

13th October 2001

Rolling chassis complete and ready to be reunited with the bodyshell.

Down at the Volkswagen Evolution workshops and the rolling chassis and bodyshell are ready to be rejoined. Will it all line up ok ?

Luckily yes, a couple of bolt holes were a fraction out, but a bit of persuasion soon had the bodyshell bolted back down on the chassis. Bea finally starts to look like a car again.

Rosey works on refitting the headlining.

Once the headlining was in, Dale refitted the back window.

Rosey says "Let me out !"

14th October 2001

Both rear quarter windows refitted after a bit of elbow grease and cursing !

Wings and doors back on. can you guess what it is yet ?
